Last night, Saturday, July 18, ASA held movie night as the primary evening activity. Summerbook was an alternative for students who wanted to participate towards creating ASA UC Berkeley's annual "yearbook".
Today ASA held three different excursions. All students had the choice between visiting the Stanford campus and experiencing the redwoods of Muir Woods. Students who signed up for the surfing excursion in advance took part in an instructional surfing class in Bolinas.
Students going to the Stanford excursion were given three different campus options. The first option consisted of rising to the top of the Hoover Tower Observation Platform, standing 285 feet high, providing a beautiful panoramic view of the Stanford campus and the surrounding Bay Area. The second option was a trip to the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts. The center includes spacious galleries, an auditorium, café and bookshop, and an enhanced Rodin Sculpture Garden. With art collections in eighteen galleries, Stanford artifacts, a superb schedule of special exhibitions, educational programs, and events, the Center is a vital addition to the campus. The third option was a trip to the Stanford Shopping Centre, an outdoor mall containing many of the top department stores and shops.
Students visiting Muir Woods witnessed was is known to be one of the finest tree-lover monuments in the world. President Theodore Roosevelt designated this old-growth redwood forest as the United States' 10th National Monument. On the way back from Muir Woods, the group stopped in Sausalito, a charming waterfront community that lies across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. Because of its Mediterranean flair and breathtaking views, it is often compared to the French Riviera.
Tonight's check-in will take place at 11:00pm and quiet time will begin at midnight. Here at ASA we prioritize the amount of sleep our students get, allowing them to perform at their maximum capacities and succeed in their academic endeavors.
